It honestly doesn't get any better than P2 in first race and then P1 in a very wet second race at Oulton Park last weekend to secure the overall British GT4 title.
So far this season, we have secured three wins and six podiums from eight races. The credit for our success is down to a real team effort - the BMW Motorsport car is excellent and reliable; Century Motorsport is such a professional team and my co-driver, Will Burns, has been a great team-mate and his performances have been rock solid. Thank you to you all!
Our celebrations are temporarily on ice until we have completed our final race at Donington on 17th October. See you there!
Snetterton. This was the first of 2 one hour sprint races this season.
Great first race in the dry with Will taking an early lead from P2 on the grid. After an extended pit window due to our success penalty, I was forced to work very hard as the tyres faded and I successfully defended the last laps to hold our position and secure another podium in P2.
The second race was a wet affair and we started P4 and gained two places before the pit stop. In spite of the success penalty, Will gained a place and led the race in P1 until we suffered a drive thro' penalty, ultimately ending up P5.
However, the points tally from Snetterton has extended our championship lead as we prepare for the business end of the season. Next up, Oulton Park.
First outing for me at the world famous Spa Francorchamps and together with Will, we secured pole for Sunday's race. What a circuit!
After an eventful start to the race, Will did well to avoid the rolling start carnage in front and around him. He developed a good first stint lead and I continued the momentum after the pit stop but our success penalty (20 secs from our win and Donington) plus our extra 26 second Silver/Silver pit stop made my task a real challenge to secure a podium. I chased down a couple of drivers and we successfully finished with another podium in P3.
After a disappointing qualifying session last Saturday, we were languishing P9 on the grid and our team-mates in car no.9 were P11.
However, after a strong start to the race, Will Burns steadily made his way through the field and carefully navigated various incidents to take the GT4 lead before handing over to me to build upon our position, securing the fastest lap and finish car no.57 in P1.
Meantime, Chris Salkeld and Andrew Gordon-Colbrooke in car no.9 were in pursuit and finished P2 overall, so Century Motorsport secured their second 1/2 of the season.
It was a tremendous team effort by Century Motorsport which demonstrates the consistency of the BMW M4 as well as the professionalism of our team.
P4 in the three hour race yesterday at Silverstone 500.
Will Burns and I performed consistently well throughout the weekend with P3 in qualifying and P4 overall in British GT4.
Dubious BoP setting in addition to our Brands win handicap of 20 secs extra in the last pit stop made this weekend a real challenge.
But, satisfied we both did our very best and we are leading the championship as we prepare for Donington Park on 10/11 July.
To achieve pole position and a race win in my first British GT weekend, partnered with Will Burns, is a great accomplishment for Century Motorsport, Will and myself.
After testing late last year, I was confident that the BMW M4 was going to provide us with the best chance of mounting a title challenge and last weekend’s results have confirmed that we have the foundations on which to have a successful year #bmwukmotorsport #bmwmotorsport #century_msport
My goal is to use this positive momentum through to Silverstone 500 and further develop the relationship which I have with Team Century and Will.
I am privileged and excited to have been invited to become a 2021 BRDC Rising Star.
Thank you Luke Evans and the BRDC Rising Star committee for your kind words and encouragement!
I am delighted to announce that I am staying with Century Motorsport to compete in a BMW M4 in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship.
Century is the sole BMW representative in British GT and has an enviable reputation in the GT4 class.
Very excited for this new challenge!
Watch this space for news as it unravels.
I completed my maiden GT season with a win in last Sunday's televised race - winning by over 5 secs with fastest lap.
This consolidated my 2nd position overall in the championship.
5 wins from 16 podiums in 17 completed races. Just a shame about the two DNFs!
BIG THANKS TO ALL MY SUPPORTERS!
Finished strongly with a win at Snetterton yesterday after a real disappointment with DNF in Race 1.
Two more podiums from this technical and most enjoyable circuit.
Big thanks to Nathan, Tom and Andre at Century Motorsport!
